Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina, Jason Bourne) stars in the Tomb Raider reboot, inspired by the recent successful reboot of the video games. The trailer below actually has many shot for shot scenes ripped straight from the video game released in 2013. Warner Bros. is at the helm of this reboot, and tells the story of a much younger Lara Croft than the Angelina Jolie version. Vikander’s Lara Croft sets out on an adventure after her father passes, and after what looks to be a rough shipwreck, she gets stranded on an island full of bad guys. Dominic West (McNulty from The Wire), Walton Goggins (Vice Principles, Justified), Daniel Wu, and Kristin Scott Thomas are also on board.
We’ve been anticipating this first look at the reboot, as the reboot of the video games have reinvigorated the franchise, and Vikander as a young Lara Croft is spot on. The trailer, however, leaves us uninspired with bland dialogue, questionable CG, and a story we feel like we’ve seen 2314092385408 times already. At least the hilari-bad grunts and moans from the video game seemed to have made the film adaptation!
What are your thoughts? Are we finally going to get a decent video game to movie adaptation? Or is this the next Assasins Creed?
Tomb Raider hits March 16, 2018.
