Warner Bros. Plans Female-Led ‘Lord of the Flies’

No, Paul Feig isn't directing.

Lord of the Flies

Lord of the Flies joins a growing list of gender swapping adaptations in Hollywood. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. is planning a new female-led adaptation of the iconic William Golding novel Lord of the Flies.

The book focuses on a group of British boys stranded on an uninhabited island and their disastrous attempt to govern themselves as they start to devolve into vicious savages. Scott McGehee and David Siegel will write and direct this new version of the story. I find it a bit odd that we’re not getting a female led writer/director, which seemed like a no-brainer considering the change in the source material.

As a huge fan of the book, I’m very intrigued and think this is an interesting way to adapt the story. The switch from all male to all female will hopefully lead to some really interesting new dynamics between the group and how they handle the collapse of their own humanity. I’m really hoping the focus is on the story here, rather than a way to launch another young adult movie looking for that Hunger Games money.
