Aaron Sorkin’s “Molly’s Game” Has Its First Trailer

Aaron Sorkin is one of the greatest writers of all time. His fast, witty, inhuman-like dialogue is infectious. It is irritating and fascinating and everything in between. From Tom Cruise and Jack Nicholson going pound for pound in A Few Good Men to Jesse Eisenberg being a smart ass to Armie Hammer in The Social Network, Sorkin’s words have been spit by many to the applause of even more. Somehow, it has taken this long for him to step behind the camera and direct the whole dang thing.

I’m not sure why now, but he’s done it. With Molly’s Game, he has stepped up to be the big dog. Starring a phenomenal cast headlined by Jessica Chastain, Idris Elba, and Kevin Costner, and adapting a true story, Molly’s Game is something you should circle on your calendar. You can watch the first trailer below:

Molly’s Game‘s synopsis, via IMDB:

“The true story of an Olympic-class skier who ran the world’s most exclusive high-stakes poker game and became an FBI target. Her players included movie stars, business titans and unbeknownst to her, the Russian mob.”

You will not find a bigger Sorkin fan than me, but something about this trailer left a bit to be desired. It could be the predictability it gave off despite being a crazy true story. It could be the lack of Sorkin-esque dialogue. There were no quick whips (save Chastain’s question about losing a job because she made too much money doing her first job), no frantic banter, none of that Sorkin trademark.

It’s odd considering he wrote the screenplay, but it’s entirely possible he held off for a specific reason. Or maybe the trailer isn’t showing the most entertaining aspect of Sorkin. Who knows. Other than that, it looks fine. A talented cast is sure to entertain in an intriguing story. Fingers crossed we get Michael Cera, serious actor extraordinaire, once it comes out.

Let us know what you think of the trailer! Will you be seeing it opening weekend or waiting for some bigger praise?

Molly’s Game will enter theaters on November 22nd.
